This course discusses Apache Sqoop, an open-source command-line interface application for transferring bulk data between Hadoop and relational databases. Sqoop is a contraction of SQL to Hadoop. It can import data from an RDBMS into Hadoop, where the data can be processed by MapReduce, and then export the data back to the RDBMS. Most importantly, it can do this automatically, relying on the database to describe the schema of the data to be transferred. Sqoop can be used with relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL, Teradata, and others. Several of the features that it provides are full or incremental load, parallel import and export, compression, and support for Accumulo.

Sqoop online training program starts with instructions on installing and configuring Sqoop. It then immediately dives into importing data, covering essentials such as the correct syntax, target directories, and incremental imports. It covers controlling parallelism, the import process, and type mapping.
